JOHN K. MURRAY
Born and raised in San Francisco, CA. John Murray began his career in 1986 when he directed a sports fitness program for Cannon Kip Community Center. Located in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, the program’s focus was on working with under privileged, at-risk youth. Also during this early time, Murray consulted for a number of high school athletic programs in San Francisco providing strength and conditioning development instruction.
MURRAY’S COACHING EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
-Founding member and contributor to Pro Hoop Strength, a web site based information resource comprised of current & former N.B.A. Strength & Conditioning Coaches, 2011-2015
-Coaching consultant to Basic Athletic Measurement (BAM), the premier athletic testing company that provides the pre-draft testing for all of the N.B.A.’s draft combines, 2012 to present.
-Member of Strength Coach staff for the N.B.A.’s Portsmouth Invitational Pre-Draft Camp, conducting athletic testing and injury risk screenings, 2013 to present.
-Consultant to Dominican University’s Basketball Program and the Prolific Prep Academy
-Seven seasons as the Golden State Warriors Director of Strength and Conditioning, 2004-2011.
-Served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Stanford University men’s and women`s basketball from 2001 – 2004.
-Current Athletic Development consultant to Saint Ignatius College Preparatory, Team Esface and Bay City Basketball Programs.
-Adviser to Difference Makers and Epic Seven Football Programs.
-Kaatsu Master Level Rehabilitation and Performance Instructor, 2015 to present.
-Produced and was featured with Monta Ellis in an exercise instruction program for Gymga, 2011.
-Consultant for the Latvian National Team during the 2008 and 2009 summer training camps.
-Member of the Coaching staff for the Pete Newell Big Man’s Camp in Las Vegas and Hawaii from 2005-2009 and the Adonal Foyle Carribean Basketball Academy, 2006-2008.
-Consultant to the Chinese Basketball Association’s Beijing Ducks (2010), the Japanese Basketball League’s Bosch Blue Winds (1998-2000) and Japan Energy Griffins (1995-98).

In addition, Murray has served as a personal strength & conditioning coach for numerous professional athletes, including NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, ATP and NHL players. Along with this experience, Murray coached with the Canadian Football League’s Sacramento Gold Miners and Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes.
From 2004-2008 Murray served as a fitness consultant to Cal-Hi Sports, making regular appearances on the weekly high school sports television program. Additionally, in 2005-06, he served as the strength and conditioning consultant to Wheaties brand cereal’s “Get Fit” campaign.
A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in Psychology, Murray received his M.A. in Clinical Sports Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, where he was named the 2008 Alumnus of the Year. Murray is a N.S.C.A. Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a United States Weightlifting Federation Certified Club Coach. A martial arts practitioner for the past 33 years, he also has been a certified drug and alcohol counselor and a certified massage therapist.
