Excellence In Action

In the “Excellence In Action” feature, Murray Athletic Development acknowledges the accomplishments of those who have either trained directly with MAD, or who have trained with MAD Director John Murray during his career. Congratulations for the efforts as well as the accomplishments of all those acknowledged below!


Roan O’Connell: Roan is a 8th grader at St. Gabriel's Grammar School. He has been training with MAD for 5 months and has improved his overall strength by 100lbs. Roan plays Rugby for San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club, and has just been selected to play on an elite 13U Rugby Club that will travel internationally (Argentina or Ireland) to represent the USA.


Soon Ja Elzy: Soon Ja is a freshman at St. Ignatius High School who has been training with MAD for the past 6 months preparing for her first basketball season at S.I. While training with MAD Soon Ja has gained over 175 lbs of strength and has increased her vertical jump by 2 inches.

Sabrina Ma: Sabrina is another talented freshman basketball player at St. Ignatius High School who has been preparing for the upcoming basketball season. She has been training with MAD for the past 2 months and has gained over 100 lbs of overall strength. Not only is Sabrina a talented basketball player, she is also a competitive swimmer, and swims for her local club team.


Jackie Acosta: Yet another dedicated St. Ignatius freshman who is a talented basketball player, Jackie also has been training with MAD in preparation for the upcoming basketball season. This past fall Jackie also tried her hand at Field Hockey, a sport she never played before, and had a very successful season. During the Field Hockey season, Jackie would come right after practices or games in order to train with MAD, often working until 7pm at night. Because of her commitment to her training, she gained over 150 lbs. of overall strength.

Shawn Batnagar: Shawn is an 8th grader who has never done any strength and conditioning work before. From his first session, it was clear this young man had the desire to achieve. He attended 15 of his scheduled 16 sessions at the cage during the fall. In eight weeks of training, He gained 55 lbs of strength and added 5 inches to his vertical.


Matthew Corrigan: Matt attended 15 of his16 scheduled workouts at the cage during the fall. He gained 175 lbs of strength and added 2.7 inches to his vertical. Matt has trained with MAD since the start of his 8th grade year and is ready to start his freshman basketball season at Palo Alto High School.
